About Me

Who am I?

My name is Caroline Olson. I'm a graduate student at Cal State Long Beach, pursuing a Masters of Science in Nutritional Science. I completed my undergraduate career at UC Berkeley, where I received a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics. This summer I start my dietetic residency with the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

I'm interested in researching the benefits, risks and limitations of alcohol consumption. I've written a few articles, including a consumer interest piece, on the subject. You can find them by poking around my Professional Expertise tab.

I am also fascinated by sports nutrition. As a former collegiate athlete, I know what a big leg up good nutrition can be for highly competitive athletes. I've volunteered with both Cal athletics and UCLA athletics. Proper nutrient timing, in particular, is a topic on which I am well versed.

Interests & Hobbies :

Leg day
Beach volleyball
Rock climbing
Language & traveling
Theater & acting

Why dietetics?

Dietetics is appealing because of the contrast between the versatility of human food practices and the scientific prerogative to understand health and nourishment. Everyone experiences food differently, yet, the scientific community turns to nutritional science for definitive answers.

The recent dichotomy of support for and criticism of nutrition and its role in one’s health has given dietetics a voice. I am eager to participate in that discussion, starting with a greater involvement in generating and evaluating research in my graduate studies.
